Sheffield’s Fibreglass Roofing Specialist
One of the newer styles of roofing material that has been created to solve the flat roof problem is fibreglass roofing. Properly known as GRP or glass reinforced plastic, this style of roofing was originally developed back in the 1930s for its insulating properties. It is a very strong material that is waterproof and has uses across a large number of industries. It was introduced into roofing quite early on, with some of the roofs that were laid soon after it was developed still in use today. This means that the material has a lifespan of at least 50 years, nearly double the traditional roofing felt lifespan.
Other advantages to fibreglass roofing is that the material can come in a range of different colors and finishes. It also doesn’t require any heat treatment to lay it on a roof, meaning there is much less risk to the installer and the general public as well as reducing the chance of any secondary damage from the use of heat. The material can even have a non-slip coating applied to it if the flat roof is going to walked upon, making it a popular choice for roof balconies, walkways or other areas of this type.
Roofs for all weather conditions
Here in the UK, one of the first things we ask of any roofing material is what is it like in the adverse weather conditions. We want to know how well it can resist the rain, if the cold winters will damage it or if we get some sunshine, if this has an adverse effect. The good news is that with fiberglass roofing, none of these issues have an impact. It can even withstand dilute acid rain conditions.
